9.2-9.8.2025: Wound, Knight of Swords, & Page of Swords
“A wound cannot heal when it is constantly being reopened.
With the decision to put down the blade and
to make no more unnecessary incision
we can begin to make love scars out of our wounds.
They form like calligraphy on our skin and
honour the history of everywhere we’ve been.
They are the proof of our resilience to let go,
again and again.”

Wound. What a fitting theme for our collective reading this week, as we cope with the aftermath of last week’s horrific tragedy. It’s true that this wound cannot heal when it is constantly being reopened. If only the decision to “put down the blade and to make no more unnecessary incision” were up to us.
The question I asked before pulling the two Tarot cards was “What will help us heal from this atrocity—both personally and collectively?” And I received Swords. Objects of war, of wounding. But the answer is not “an eye for an eye.” The answer is not more violence. The answer is, undeniably, ACTION.
Swords represent thoughts, words, communication, voice. The Knight of Swords in particular means putting those WORDS (those THOUGHTS and PRAYERS?) into ACTION. The Page of Swords holds a more hesitant energy. Where the Knight wants to rush forward in an act of rash bravery, the Page takes its time. It’s not quite so sure yet. And that’s okay. The message here is to take action on your terms, in your way, when you’re ready. But whatever you do, don’t let yourself be silenced by this violence. You might be in a freeze state right now--and that's totally valid. But don't stay there. This is a call to action.
Not sure where to start? Here are some ideas:
🖤 Talk it out with a friend, loved one, therapist, or trusted advisor. Allow the thoughts and feelings to move through you. Moving your body can help this process.
🖤 Voice your opinions, your feelings, your demands. Make them be heard. Write a letter, call a Senator, attend a protest. Join an advocacy group like @everytown @momsdemand @marchforourlives or @sandyhookpromise
🖤 Educate yourself on gun violence prevention and share resources with others.
As for me? I'll be over here making book displays, 'cause that's one small thing I know how to do.
