2025 Reflections: what is a #9 year?

I’ve always been a numbers geek–but not in the way you might be thinking (yes, I do enjoy the occasional Sudoku, but no, I do not do Math equations for fun like my six-year-old does!). The type of geekery I’m referring to relates more to Numerology, the belief in the spiritual significance of numbers. I’ve always been a fan of making a wish at 11:11, stopping the microwave timer at a specific number, and spotting Angel Numbers on license plates, but my interest in numbers goes a bit further.

Just to give a few examples: When we bought our house, it was really pleasing to me that the first two numbers in our address added up to the second two (I wouldn’t have, like, not bought our house if that wasn’t the case, but it did definitely sweeten the deal for me!). When my second child was born, our midwife, who knew I had kind of a thing for numbers, was pleased to inform me that his birth time was 22:22. And when I made the connection that my first child’s birth TIME was the same as my second child’s birth DATE, I knew that 927 had a special meaning for me and my kiddos (also 9-2=7 🥰🥰🥰). See what I’m getting at here?

Even though my interest in numbers is maybe a little quirky, I do think it’s an interesting and powerful tool for meaning-making. Like all my spirituality practices, I take Numerology with a grain of salt, a dash of playfulness, and a healthy scoop of wonder and awe–always through the lens of self-reflection. So I thought it would be fun to reflect on the ending of the year 2025 through the lens of Numerology (which of course also relates to Tarot!).

2025 was a #9 year (2+0+2+5 = 9)
In numerology, the number nine relates to:

Endings
Completion of a cycle
Culmination
Wrapping things up
Bringing things to a close
Wisdom and spirituality
Teaching and learning
Travel (inward + outward)
Sagittarius/Jupiter

With those themes in mind, feel free to grab your favorite notebook and pen, open a word doc, or simply mull over the following reflection questions and see where your mind wanders. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest behind.

❄️As the year 2025 comes to a close, reflect upon what has culminated in your life this year. What have you closed the book on? What came to a bitter(or-not-so-bitter)sweet ending in your life? Where have you tied up loose ends?

❄️What knowledge did you obtain this year–about yourself? About the world? About your job? About your loved ones? Who did you teach? And what did you teach them about? Who did you learn from? And what did you learn from them?

❄️Reflect upon your travels–near or far, literal or metaphorical. Where did you go? What did you experience? What was the best part? The most challenging part? The most surprising part? What new perspective did you acquire as a result of your travels? How did your experiences change or shape you?

Now, since this is Tarot Tuesday, you know we’re going to bring some Tarot Teachers into the mix. The following Tarot cards are associated with the number nine. Here are their messages for us as we close out this #9 year.

The Hermit (IX)
Carve out some alone time to reflect on your year and everything you experienced, endured, and learned about yourself this year. I know, I know–alone time, what’s that? While The Hermit would love for you to take an entire weekend away in silent retreat, I realize that’s not realistic for most of us–especially during this busy holiday season. Perhaps your “Hermit time” is five stolen minutes hiding from your family in a closet as you breathe gratitude to yourself with your hands on your heart. Perhaps it’s a twenty-minute journaling session in the morning before the world wakes and responsibility rears its head. Whatever “alone time” looks like, take some time to make note of this turning of the year. What does it mean to you?

The Moon (XVIII)
The Moon invites you to tap into your subconscious and try your best not to shy away from whatever may come up. Schedule a therapy session. Start a dream journal. Plant some seeds of intention with this week’s New Moon in Sagittarius (how fitting to close out this #9 year, as Sagittarius ruled the ninth house!). However you choose to approach it, go deep–and trust what you find.

Nine of Cups
❄️Thinking back on the year, what were your glimmers?
A glimmer is the opposite of a trigger. Glimmers are those small moments you witness or experience throughout the day that spark a little joy or restore your faith in humanity. Maybe you stood up for someone at work or maybe a friend had your back in a sticky situation. Maybe it’s the sound of your kiddo’s laugh or being on the receiving end of a stranger’s kindness.

Nine of Wands
❄️Where in your life does it feel like you’re on the “final stretch?” How can you shorten the distance between here and the finish line? Or at least make the final leg more enjoyable?
Don’t be too proud to call in reinforcements, even if you’ve made it this far without help. And remember to pause and catch your breath when this is all over. Your accomplishments are worth celebrating!

Nine of Pentacles
❄️What are you ready to joyfully move on from? How can you honor that something and the impact it had on your life as you simultaneously bring it to an intentional close? What does your next era look like?
The Nine of Pentacles is known as the “retirement card.” Whether or not you literally retired from your job this year, I encourage you to work with the positive energy of this card that calls for one chapter to close and a new phase to begin.

Nine of Swords
❄️What did you spend the most time or energy worrying about this year? Now be honest with yourself: How much did your worrying help improve the outcome? Furthermore: How many of those things actually came to fruition?
Worry is one of those pesky emotions that can creep up on us, sometimes even settling into our bones so intimately that it becomes a backdrop to our lives. The goal is not to push it away, but rather to notice when it comes to visit, acknowledge its presence, and let it know that you are the one in the drivers’ seat. It’s okay if worry wants to hang out, but it doesn’t get to pick the destination (or the playlist 😏).

I’d love to hear how this reflection exercise went for you! Share your aha moments in the comments.
