Your personal year number for 2026
Last week, I talked about the Numerology for the year 2026, and how it’s a Number One year (2+0+2+6 = 10; 1+0 = 1). The energy of the number one will serve as a backdrop to the year, and since we’re all members of the “collective,” the themes related to the number one will likely be present in each of our lives. But did you know we each have our own Personal Year Number as well? Today, we’ll determine your Personal Year Number for 2026 and get into what it means for you, all through the lens of Tarot and self-reflection. Let’s get into it!
First things first, we’ll need to do some basic math (no Algebra, promise!).
Add your birth date, birth month, and the number 1 together.
Reduce the number down to a single digit by adding them together until you get a number between 1-9.
Here’s an example, using my birthdate, April 20th (yes, I’m a 4/20 baby!).
4+20+1 = 25
2+5 = 7
So my personal year number for 2026 is 7.
You may have to reduce the number down several times in order to get to a single digit. Feel free to drop a comment at the bottom of the post if you need help determining your Personal Year Number.
Once you’ve determined your Personal Year Number for 2026, read on for a special message from your very own “Tarot Teacher” for the year.
Personal Year 1: The Magician
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Begin
Themes:
Initiation
Independence
Autonomy
Resourcefulness
Creation
Self-expression
Self-actualization
New beginnings
You know how people always start the New Year saying “This is it! This is going to be The Year.” Well for you, my friend, it just might be true! You’ve got the power of a Number One year on your side, both through the collective energy of this Number One year we are entering and through your own Personal Number One Year. The energy is ripe for you to kick things off and be successful with your follow-through. It’s time to stand in your own power, to own your individuality, to voice your opinion. Gather your resources and get started. It’s your time.
What will you initiate this year?
What will you create?
What tools are at your disposal to “make it so”?
What first steps can you take right now?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 2: The High Priestess
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Trust
Themes:
Intuition
Spirituality
Stillness
Going inward
Dreams
Femininity
Duality
This year, you are encouraged to find and hone your intuition. Believe it or not, we ALL have intuition. Most of us have just been conditioned to push it down, to ignore it, to disregard it. Next time you feel an inkling about something, notice where that inner knowing is showing up in your body. Some people experience intuitive hits as a “gut feeling,” a tingling scalp, or a quickening of the heart. Don’t be disheartened if it takes awhile to find it. Growing your intuition takes practice! Some activities you can engage in to assist in the process: meditation, prayer, free-writing, dream journaling. Sometimes even just doing a quiet activity like gardening, going for a walk, running, or showering can assist in accessing your intuition. As you learn to recognize your inner knowing, the next and perhaps most important step is to listen to and TRUST it.
What activities might help you tap into your intuition?
How does your intuition show up in your body?
What is it trying to tell you?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 3: The Empress
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Nurture
Themes:
Motherhood
Nurturing
Sensuality
Nature
The Earth
Fall into the warm embrace of The Empress. She is here to remind you that you are worthy of care. You do so much to provide comfort and nourishment to others. It is time to turn that same attention to yourself. The New Year provides fertile ground for you to begin a new self-care practice. Think beyond bubble baths and pedicures (though those may be part of the equation). It is time to create a sustainable routine that includes caring deeply for yourself. Tuning into your five senses is a good place to start. What area could use some extra attention? Another great place to start is by strengthening your relationship with Mother Earth. Go for a walk and bring a trash bag to clean up garbage. Plant a tree. Support businesses that are committed to sustainability practices. After all, when we care for Mother Earth, we care for ourselves.
What care do you tend to give others?
Do you give yourself that same level of care?
What is one thing you can do right now to better nurture/nourish yourself?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 4: The Emperor
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Empowered
Themes:
Leadership
Authority
Strength
Power
Structure
Stability
Sometimes it’s hard to see ourselves as a “leader.” But you are! It’s time to start believing it. This is the year to take ownership of your leadership role–whether that be on a personal level, in the workplace, or in your relationships. Harness the courage and confidence of The Emperor as you step up as the leader you were born to be. This is also a good year to seek stability and structure, especially in areas of your life that have felt nebulous or a little wobbly. The Emperor is ruled by Aries, the fiery planet of action and aggression. Perhaps it’s time to light a fire under yourself and make some authoritative moves. You are the main character in this story!
What is your relationship with “authority figures?”
Where do you feel the need for more structure in your life?
Where or with whom are you a natural leader? Where or with whom do you tend to fall back in line?
What would it look like to step more into your own leadership and authority?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 5: The Hierophant
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Wisdom
Themes:
Spirituality
Tradition
Ancestral wisdom
Mentorship
Teaching/Learning
Belief system
Values
Everyone you meet has something to teach you. Be open to learning from even the most challenging of people/experiences. And at the same time, be open to challenging your own belief system. Talk to your elders (if you are lucky enough to still have them on this Earth). Research the origin story behind the beliefs, values, and traditions you grew up with. Perhaps there are some you want to strengthen or make more prominent in your life. Perhaps there are some that feel problematic. This is the year to ask yourself (and those you look up to) the hard questions. You get to decide what traditions to carry forward and which ones to leave behind.
Where do your beliefs and values come from?
Which would you like to learn more about?
Are there any you feel you’ve outgrown?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 6: The Lovers
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Synergy
Themes:
Relationships
Health
Harmony
Balance
Duality
Choices
Communication
On the surface, this card is about romantic love. And it very well may signal a time of love and harmony in your existing relationship—or perhaps it heralds a budding romance. But The Lovers is about so much more than that. Yes, it relates to your relationships—but not just the romantic ones. Your focus this year is very much about how you relate to others AND how you stay in integrity with yourself. The Lovers card calls to mind the idiom “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” It represents a combining of forces (perhaps even opposing forces) and seeing what happens when they work together for the common good. Work with the energy of this card when you have a decision to make. The Lovers card will always point you towards the path that leads to more peace and harmony for everyone, not just those with the loudest voices.
Who makes your life more whole and complete?
Whose life do you contribute to, in turn?
Whose presence leaves you feeling off-kilter?
What might bring more harmony to that situation or relationship?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 7: The Chariot
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Momentum
Themes:
Movement
Change
Dynamic balance
Determination
Motivation
Security
Inner transformation
At first glance, one may assume this card is stereotypically masculine, through and through. After all, the Charioteer is a commanding force clad in iron, armored against whatever foe comes its way. But look a little closer and you’ll notice some feminine details: the crescent moons on the shoulder plates, the celestial curtains, the symbol of Cancer, the sign of the Mother. You, too, contain multitudes. You are not just masculine or feminine, black or white, this or that. You exist on a beautiful spectrum between two opposing forces. This year, your task is to find a dynamic balance between the two. A surge of change is on the horizon. Can you feel it? You may not be swept up in its tide just yet, but you are preparing. Work with the building momentum. Center yourself in who it is that you truly are. When the time comes, you’ll be ready.
Where in your life do you feel the tug of tension between opposing forces?
In what area(s) will it benefit you to hold that tension? In what area(s) are you ready to let go?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 8: Strength
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Strength
Themes:
Courage
Confidence
Patience
Self-mastery
Feminine strength
Fortitude
Inner fire
Infinite possibilities
Oftentimes when we hear the word “strength,” we think of it in a more traditionally masculine sense—muscles, power, athleticism, forceful action. However, this card suggests that we take a more feminine approach—using charm, kindness, and emotional intelligence to persuade and nudge, rather than forcing or controlling things through brute strength. Here we see a woman taming a powerful beast. She does so not by abusing it or coercing it, but rather by treating it gently and affectionately. This card is not about dominance, but resilience, adaptability, and the confidence that whatever twists and turns life throws your way in 2026, you can handle them calmly and with grace. Infinite possibilities await. Grab hold!
Where are you feeling stuck?
Rather than pushing through or forcing it, what would it look like to harness your Feminine strength and soften your approach?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
Personal Year 9: The Hermit
Your Word of the Year, should you choose to accept it: Reflect
Themes:
Self-reflection
Meditation
Solitude
Introspection
Self-reliance
Inner wisdom
Personal exploration
Teaching/learning
So often when we have a decision to make, we turn outward. What to eat for dinner? Poll the audience. Whether to take the job? Ask the group chat. Where to go on vacation? Turn to social media. What to do about your problem? Ask your friends. This year, The Hermit challenges you to pause. Instead of immediately asking others, try turning inward for the answers you seek. The Hermit isn’t here to insist you do it all on your own. It does, however, serve as a reminder that there’s a lot more wisdom in there than you give yourself credit for! This year provides you opportunities to embrace solitude, introspection, and stillness. Go on a solo retreat. Take up meditation. Embrace your inner introvert! Who knows what answers may lie beyond the chatter of the hive mind?
When was the last time you were truly alone (No phone, no TV, no music, no podcast, nothing to influence you but your own thoughts)?
What feelings does the idea of that kind of solitude bring up for you? Excitement? Dread? Comfort? Despair?
Why might those feelings be coming up for you?
What might happen if you allowed yourself an entire day of stillness and quiet? Are you up for the challenge?
And so it is. And so it will be. ✨
