We are once again reeling from another senseless act of violence, another murder on our streets at the hands of ICE. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to find it in me to pull cards this week, but then this spread came to mind: A soapbox to stand on, a candle to light, a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold tight.

A soapbox to stand on (The Hierophant V)

Now is the time to speak up, if you haven’t already. It’s time to gather your courage, clear your throat, and shout ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

The Hierophant calls to mind the wisdom of our ancestors and the traditions we inherited from them (for better or worse). Call upon and lift up the stories of those who came before you, in order to learn from their wisdom, their resiliency—and their mistakes.

Leverage your spiritual practices, your religious beliefs, the personal traditions and rituals you hold most sacred. If you are a Christian, quote scripture right back at the baddies. If you practice witchcraft, hex those motherfuckers. If you pray, send energy to the victims and their families. But don’t stop there. “Action is hope. There is no hope without action.” -Ray Bradbury

And if your spiritual/religious leaders have remained silent or “neutral” on the atrocities happening in our communities right now? That’s a red flag, babe.

A candle to light (The Sun XIX)

How can we best honor the people who have been victimized by this administration?

The Sun points to joy and childlike abandon. In dark times like these, it can be hard to reorient ourselves towards the sun, to seek out joy. We may even feel guilty doing so. Tap into the Wise Mind Philosophy, a concept referenced in an Instagram post by @meghanbreentherapy: “When you allow yourself to feel the sun on your face or a moment of genuine laughter, you aren’t ignoring the world. You are recharging your spirit so you don’t drop out of the race. Collective Duty - If you have the privilege to feel safe or happy for a moment, it is your damn duty to feel it fully, for everyone who can’t right now. Then, take that energy back into the world to fight like fucking hell.”

Where to turn when we feel hopeless?

The World showed up in last week’s collective reading as well. This week, I’m taking a more literal interpretation. If and when you get bogged down by the bad and have a hard time finding the good, turn to the broader stage. Minnesota (and Minneapolis in particular) has been thrust into the global spotlight because of the incredible resistance we are putting up against the ICE Occupation. We are receiving an outpouring of love and support from people not only across the country but across the globe, many of which have been asking “What can we do to help?” I know everyone is quoting Mr. Rogers right now, but he said it best: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” Feel the comforting weight of that love wrap around you like a warm blanket and know that there are helpers on standby on every corner of the planet.

Who needs my support right now?

Speaking of the helpers… Check in on those who have been on the front lines. Those who have been patrolling their neighborhoods, protesting, organizing, reporting, observing first-hand. The Nine of Wands represents someone who is nearing the end of their rope (or feels that way). They are tired, beaten down, world-weary and not sure how much longer they can go on like this. You may not be able to “fix it” for them, but even just a nudge of encouragement or comforting presence goes a long way.

Hang in there. Hold the line. Keep fighting the good fight.
