No “wrong way” to Walk + Talk
Part of the draw of Walk + Talk sessions for a lot of my clients and potential clients is the fact that they can “get their steps in” while also “getting their therapy on.” While I 100% see the appeal, and certainly enjoy a 2 for 1… (who doesn’t love a good multi-task?!), I’m quick to clarify the intention of the Walk + Talk session with anyone who’s curious. Mental wellness and growth is the primary goal, and the (numerous) benefits that come from movement are more of a happy side-benefit.
Many of my clients happen to be of the high-achieving variety, and therefore have a tendency toward perfectionism and “getting the most” out of the Walk + Talk session. This is a friendly reminder that there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to have a Walk + Talk session. There is no gold medal given for how many steps we get in or how far we make it on our walk. Some clients like to walk fast, some like to stroll, and most find themselves at a pace somewhere in the middle. You set the pace and I’ll follow your lead. The entire point of the Walk + Talk session is to integrate mind, body, and spirit… moving your body to grow your mind.
