The “why” behind Wise Womxn Walking Club

In my work with clients, conversations with friends and family, and observations about our world in general, a common theme continues to appear: we are over-stimulated and under-supported.
Many of us experience lives that are full, but not necessarily fulfilling.
We find ourselves overwhelmed by our schedules, responsibilities, and commitments. We are often surrounded by others, yet feeling alone. Our society's departure from "the village" mentality and lack of the type of support system our ancestors experienced is taking a toll. As human beings, we weren't meant to live such separate lives—yet here we are.
The US Surgeon General and the World Health Organization have been researching "The Epidemic of Loneliness." They describe it as "a decline in meaningful social connections, exacerbated by factors like the pandemic, digital overload, and societal shifts." They go on to state that the impact of chronic loneliness and isolation on our health is comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day(!).
Heavy stuff, I know.
It's easy to get caught up in the doom and gloom and start to feel hopeless about it all. I share all of this not to be a Debbie Downer, but to shed some light on the issue and hopefully offer some validation for anyone who can relate.
In addition to increasing awareness around the topic, I’m feeling called to take action and DO something about it. Enter, stage right: Wise Womxn Walking Club Stillwater.
My (albeit little) contribution to community building, connection enhancing, and loneliness reduction.
