6.2-6.8.26: What are you birthing?
This week, I’m switching things up and using my Poesis Oracle deck for our collective reading. The card I pulled was “Birth.” It’s pretty fitting, since I’ll be starting with a new HypnoBirthing® client next week!
I could go so many directions with this card, but today the message that wants to come through is about the many different stages leading up to and including the birthing process. In HypnoBirthing, we talk about birth in two stages: the Thinning and Opening phase (where you experience the intensity of surges as your cervix literally thins and opens to make way for baby) and the Birthing phase (the part where baby actually travels down and out, the part where you bring your baby Earthside and get to meet them face-to-face). Something else we talk about in HB is the concept of “false labor,” which we actually call “practice labor.” Because we’re not into gaslighting and there’s nothing “false” about it! It may not be “the real deal” just yet, but the sensations are real. And the experience is a part of the laboring process. Practice labor is exactly what it sounds like: It’s your body’s way of prepping, priming, and practicing for the big day.
So how does this apply to you if you aren’t pregnant or planning to be (or if you’re well past your birthing days)?
Well, as human beings we are inherently creative. We create things every day—with our bodies, our hands, our brains. We birth creations on a regular basis—whether that be a work of art or a passion project or a brand new version of yourself—or, yes, a literal human being. And as we know, the birth of the thing doesn’t “just happen.” There’s conception and planning and work and discomfort and anticipation and intentionality and growth that happens before it can be brought forth into the world, before we can meet it face-to-face.
And sometimes it can feel like nothing is happening. Like you’re going nowhere, making zero progress, like this is “all for nothing,” but as we know, life is best understood backwards. Sometimes when you’re “in it,” you can’t see the growth that is happening underneath the surface. But someday you’ll hold that beautiful creation in your arms (literally or metaphorically) and you’ll think back to the beforetimes and say “Ohhh… So that’s what that was for. That’s why XYZ did or didn’t happen. That led to that which led to… THIS.”
Wherever you are in the birthing process—whether it’s deciding what/when/if/how you want to create the thing; or maybe you’re in the early stages of conception; or you’re at the awkward stage where you know the thing is going to happen, but no one else quite believes it yet; or perhaps you are deep in the throes of the birthing phase, wondering how much longer it’s going to take—your story is valid. And you are exactly where you need to be. 🤍
What are you “birthing” and what stage of the process are you in? Tell us in the comments.
Just a quick programming note: these weekly readings for the collective may be a little spotty in the coming weeks, as I’ll be shifting my focus to teaching HypnoBirthing. But never fear! I plan to pick them back up with regularity once we wrap up.
If you like these weekly collective readings, you'll love a personalized reading just for you.
