10.7-10.13.2025: Six of Pentacles, The Hanged One, Four of Swords

If you have ever found yourself feeling stuck, playing a waiting game, or grasping for control in an uncontrollable situation, you understand the energy of our central card this week: The Hanged One.

It can be really challenging to feel powerless over a situation. But if you allow yourself to sit with the discomfort for a bit, you may find that it can also be somewhat freeing. Knowing there’s nothing you can do but wait releases you from the compulsion to DO something. Waiting can actually be quite meditative. Suddenly, instead of feeling “stuck,” you find yourself surrendering to what is—knowing that this moment will eventually pass and you’ll once again find yourself right-side-up and released from the bondage you once found yourself in. And if all there is to do but wait, then there is no point in struggling or trying to grasp for control.

What else can be quite challenging for us as humans living in a culture that praises individuality and self-sufficiency? Asking for help. Or perhaps even more difficult—accepting that help when it is offered. The Six of Pentacles reminds us that sometimes we are the giver and sometimes we are the receiver. And there is no shame or particular nobility in either of those roles. It’s just a fact of life: sometimes we are in a position to give (money, time, talents, assistance, support, advice) and other times we are in a position to receive. Take stock of where you currently fall on the giving-receiving spectrum. If the scales are tipping in one direction over the other, consider how you might balance things out. If there’s too much on your plate, perhaps it’s time to delegate or outsource a few things. But here’s the hard part (especially for my Type A friends): When you choose to accept the help of another, you must surrender control. Surrender control over the process they take. Surrender control over the outcome. Release yourself from “if I want it done right I have to do it myself” thinking.

And what to do with the extra time and space you’ll be creating by accepting help and surrendering to what is?

REST.

If you’re tempted to “be productive” in other areas of your life, the Four of Swords has different ideas. The Four of Swords says “set down your worries and to-dos, if only for a few moments and just BE. Everything can be picked up at another time. For now, there’s nothing more important to do in this moment than to exist.”

Surrendering to what is can bring immense peace. I hope you are able to carve out a slice of it this week.
