10.21-10.27.2025: The Moon, Death, King of Cups
Scorpio Season begins on Thursday and this moody line-up couldn’t be more on brand. This week, I worked with the prompt “Know, Do, Heal” and we received The Moon (Know), Death (Do) and King of Cups (Heal).
The Moon encourages us to investigate what’s under the surface. Although it is technically associated with dreamy, intuitive Pisces, I also tend to think of our other watery friend, Scorpio, when I think about the themes of this card. Like Scorpio, the Moon wants us to go beyond intellectual thinking and dive into other ways of knowing—by examining our dreams, introspections, and “witchy hunches.” Things just tend to look different under the silvery light of the Moon, don’t they? And eerie as it can be, sometimes a new perspective is exactly what we need. Journaling, therapy, Tarot, and hypnosis can be helpful tools to assist with this spelunking expedition.
As you navigate through the murky waters of your inner world, don’t be surprised if things come up that you’d rather keep hidden. After all, that tends to be the nature of “shadow work.” Do your best to avoid recoiling from the flotsam and jetsam that emerges, but rather to acknowledge these shadowy parts of yourself with loving compassion—even the ugly parts (especially the ugly parts). As you sift through what lies beneath, be on the lookout for things that have reached their expiration date. Is there an old wound, story, or thought pattern you're ready to retire? This is where the Death card comes into play.
It may be time to metaphorically "put to death" something that no longer fits or no longer serves you. Death is the card most strongly associated with Scorpio. And how fitting, as Scorpio Season begins this week. It's no coincidence that the Sun enters Scorpio in late Autumn as the leaves die off and fall to the ground, their once-vibrant colors fading, their corners curling up. Soon those leaves will become dry and brittle. They'll crunch beneath our feet on the sidewalk and turn to dust. They'll fold back into the earth and become food for worms and other creepy-crawlies of the night—just as we all will eventually. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. What are you feeling called to compost?
Although you may be tempted to do this deeply personal deep-dive alone, the King of Cups advises you to seek the counsel of an emotionally stable confidante. Perhaps this person is a wise elder or just an old soul. Perhaps they've already explored the shipwreck of their own soul and have come out on the other side kinder and wiser for it. Or perhaps they're a friend, teacher, or therapist with a high EQ. Whoever you choose to bring along on this soul journey, make sure they are an emotionally mature someone who has shown that they can handle whatever gets dredged up. This is important work—and sometimes it can be deeply triggering. And: you don't have to do it alone.
