Back-to-School Self Care

Ever since my kids have started elementary school, I have felt this need to savor these last sips of summer and make it “special” while simultaneously leaning into the back-to-school energy and fitting in back-to-school shopping and haircuts. I’ve coined this time of year and the experience that comes with it “The Summer Squeeze.” Here are some ways I’m coping this season:

Letting Things Slide

You may have noticed there’s no “Wise Womxn Walk” content this week. This wasn’t an oversight, but rather an intentional way to let myself off the hook in this extra-full season.

Lowering the Bar

We have been leaning into spontaneous plans and letting ourselves go where the wind blows the past few weeks. Therefore, I’ve had to let go of a few things… and for me, the house is always the first to go. The laundry will always be there, and I’m okay if we have to switch to paper plates for a few days if it means we get to stay up late putting final touches on our tree-house project or letting the girls run wild outside until dark.

Attempting to Stay Present

When I start feeling overwhelmed and whipped up in the moment and start rifling through my to-do list of all that needs to be done, I remind myself to “be here now” and do one thing at a time rather than fall into the trap of multi-tasking.

I encourage you to think about what’s lighting you up right now and balancing that with what your mind-body-soul are asking for. Give yourself permission to set down whatever you can right now and remember to breathe. You’ve got this.

🤍Kari
